Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has lavished praise on Trent Alexander-Arnold following the teenager’s performance against Manchester City in the Champions League.
Alexander-Arnold started both legs of the quarter-final match-up, and impressed against City winger Leroy Sane, who struggled to make his mark down the left.
Liverpool recorded a 3-0 victory in the first leg last week before finishing the job at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night – ultimately running out 5-1 winners over Pep Guardiola’s side.

Mohamed Salah scored in both legs of the last-eight tie, but Gerrard reserved special praise for Alexander-Arnold for his performance levels over the two legs.
Indeed, Gerrard has claimed that the 19-year-old ‘has to be the star man over the two legs’, and has even tipped him to earn a spot into the England squad for the 2018 World Cup.

Gerrard told BT Sport:
“If you look at Trent’s age, and the magnitude of the game over both legs, who he was up against, I think he has to be the star man over the two legs.
“He’s stood up so well, Gareth [Southgate] will know him well. The manager’s confidence in him, to keep him on with a yellow card, speaks volumes.”
Alexander-Arnold has scored three times in 26 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions during the 2017-18 campaign.
